If you are organizing your holidays in Tuscany you cannot miss a trip to the Tarot Garden!
In the town of Gravicchio, a hamlet of the town of Capalbio in Tuscany, immersed in the greenery of the Maremma countryside, stands the Tarot Garden, an artistic park famous throughout Italy created by the French-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle, who passed away in May 2002.
Taking inspiration from Gaudí's visit to Parc Güell in Barcelona and, later, from the works of the Bomarzo garden, the artist began construction of the park's works in 1979. Thanks to the collaboration with famous local artists and architects, construction was finished in 1996 and the park was opened to the public on 15 May 1998.
Populated with twenty-two statues representing the major arcana of the tarot, built in steel and concrete and covered with mirrors, glass and colored ceramics, the Park is today one of the major tourist attractions in the area, not only for the beauty and extravagance of the works but also for their symbolic and esoteric meaning.
The Great Central Square welcomes visitors with its basin containing the statues depicting the High Priestess and the Magician which mark the beginning of the route. From here begins an almost "allegorical" journey inside the park through symbolic figures, at times monstrous, plays of light and shadow, colorful statues and plays of mirrors that animate the entire garden.
Everything has a meaning within the Park, even the streets play a fundamental role in the route: by focusing your attention on the concrete of the streets you can read the artist's quotes, thoughts, numbers, notes and hopes.
The trip to the Tarot Garden is much more than a visit to a park: for those who allow themselves to be transported into this magical dream it will be a moment of growth and profound knowledge that will enrich their cultural background. At the same time, whoever organizes the trip with the children will experience a fun and carefree moment, surrounded by beautiful, colorful and fun sculptures.
A few minutes' drive from the Tarot Garden is the Capalbio Resort, immersed in the Tuscan countryside near the sea. With its elegant rooms and spacious apartments surrounded by green, well-kept lawns, the Capalbio Resort is the ideal place for holidays with family, friends or as a couple.
Thanks to its strategic position, the Capalbio Resort is the ideal starting point not only for visiting the Tarot Garden and the beautiful towns of Porto Ercole, Porto Santo Stefano and Capalbio, but also for spending a few days near the clear sea of Monte Argentario and the Tuscan coast.
